Pale ruby. Classic, earthy, compact cherry nose. Earthy fruit framed by dark, supple tannins. Closes up, but one could already start drinking this. Very good.

Ciabot Berton's 2012 is pliant, succulent and absolutely delicious. Sweet red cherry, plum, rose petal, smoke, mint and dried flowers grace this attractive, mid-weight Barolo from Ciabot Berton. Already quite open and accessible, the 2012 will drink well upon release. This is an other very pretty and appealing wine from Ciabot Berton.

Cooked, fragrant, minty, engaging nose. Very smooth tannins, way more accessible than most nebbiolo at this age. Very delicious, but perhaps unfaithful to the traditional image of the style.

Aromas of stewed berry, backing spice, fragrant blue flowers and chopped herb emerge shile the ripe palate shows juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, cake spice and a hint of chewing tobacco alongside big, velvety tannins and fresh acidity. It's already accessible but will maintain for another decade.
Drink through 2026.

Concentrated and elegant with deep, layered flavours of cherry, sweet spice and plum; firm but well-integrated tannins, liquorice and mineral notes, with a long, bright, savoury, persistent finish.
Call for grilled wild game and flavourful hard cheese.

The intriguingly complex nose has layers of fruit, smoke and leather. The palate has generous round dark fruit and a broad range of anise, tar and truffle flavours, all adding to the pleasure, really good acidity makes for a beautiful long fresh finish.

Barolo CIABOT BERTON 2010, a blend from the Roggeri, San Biagio and Rive vineyards
Tight, peppery and sweet with a herbal note and a little dusty at first. Capably made Barolo, in its restrained character going against the usually opulent La Morra style. Perhaps not that polished or complex, but long and satisfying and delicious. Ready now, 14,5%. Drink 2014-2020 (WS)

Una prova di grande maturità quella di Marco Oberto: Barolo Ciabot Berton lucido, lineare, snello e davvero efficace.
International Wine Report – October 2014
The 2010 Ciabot Berton Barolo opens up with aromas of cherries, spices and licorice along with hints of chocolate, floral and a touch of dried cedar. It shows a firm structure backed by fine tannins before folding in another layer of cherries and spices on the finish (Best 2015-2020).
ANTONIO GALLONI - VINOUS (Oct. 2013)
Ciabot Berton’s 2009 Barolo is an excellent choise for drinking over the next few years. Sweet raspberries, rose petals and a hint of cinnamon grace the finish in a mid-weight, gracious Barolo with tons of personality and balance. This is a terrific effort in its class.

ENOGEA – Alessandro Masnaghetti
BAROLO-BLOG.BLOGSPOT.IT – Barolo, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo as we see (and drink) them – CIABOT BERTON
An excellent wine! This bottle was opened for us. It, like the 2008, is from three diverse vineyards. Good now but probably better in three to five years. Highly recommended. Purchased for our cellar.

A beautiful balance to this wine with plum, chocolate and cedar character. Medium-to-full bodied, it shows the quality and complexity of 2008. Drink or hold
STEPHEN TANZER – International Wine Cellar, November/December 2013 - 92 POINTS
Deep, dark red. High-toned aromas of very dark fruits and spices, plus a whiff of horseradish (from the oak?). Densely packed, primary and deep, with an intensely spicy character to the sweet dark berry flavors. Concentrated, youthful, edgy wine with a serious, dry finish featuring firm, ripe tannins and lovely lingering floral perfume. Still quite primary. 92 Points.
KYLE PHILLIPS’S ITALIAN WINE REVIEW – Garantito IGP: Tasting in Piemonte
Deep garnet with black reflections and almandine rim. The bouquet is moderately intense, with an initial rush of black olives that predominate over most everything else; with time some floral accents also emerge. On the palate it’s ample and rather soft, with moderate sour cherry fruit supported by warmth and berry fruit acidity, and by tannins that are clean and fairly bright, and flow into a warm cherry finish. It’s quite young and straight forward, needs time, and may become interesting.
ROBERT PARKER – Antonio Galloni
Ciabot Berton’s 2008 Barolo is a gorgeous entry-level wine laced with expressive red berries, crushed flowers and licorice. The 2008 impresses for its overall sense of balance, poise and harmony. In particular, the tannins are considerably more polished and armonious than has been the case in the recent past. This is one of the very best Baroli I have ever tasted at Ciabot Berton. The 2008 was made from vineyards in Roggeri, Bricco S.Biagio and Rive, all in the Santa Maria District of La Morra. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018
BAROLO-BLOG.BLOGSPOT.IT – Barolo, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo as we see (and drink) them – CIABOT BERTON The bottle was open for eight hours when we tasted it. This is theri base Barolo, made from the grapes of three diverse vineyards. This wine needs a long rest in the cellar. We got it to open up in the mouth after “working”the glass for at least five minutes. Recommended for those with a great deal of patience.
Punteggio: 2 bicchieri
WEIN.PUR 5/12: Dunkle Waldbeeren; saftig, dicht, gute Substanz, verspielt, charmant, einladend, mineralische Note ständig begleitend, bereits zugänglich und mit Genuss zu trinken.
Piccoli frutti, succoso, compatto, buon corpo, accattivante, nota minerale sempre presente, già piacevolmente bevibile.
JANCIS ROBINSON (07/06/2012): La Morra. From the Roggeri, Bricco San Biagio and Rive vineyards. Lacklustre ruby with orange tinges. Soft and subdued raspberry fruit with good balance. Seems a little innocent for Nebbiolo. May come round. Drink 2014 to 2022. Score: 15,5 points
CELLAR TRACKER - Tasted by Wine-Strategies on 5/12/2011: Nebbiolo Prima (day 4) #191. Marco's wines are always very correct, and this wine is no exception. These wines are truly made in the vineyard(s); they're a joy to drink and share. A blend of three different vineyards, all quite close to one another, this offers up excellent typicity and varietal character; an honest reflection of the land and tradition. Very fresh acidity, steely tannins, and well above-average fruit quality. This too took 30 minutes to open up, but it was worth the wait and is easily in the top quartile of normale tasted this day. Drink through 2023 Score: 91 points
L'ACQUA BUONA (30/11/2011): Colore leggero e naturale.
WINE ADVOCATE (Oct 2011): The 2007 Barolo is an attractive wine laced with crushed flowers, spices and sweet red berries, all of which come together nicely on a refined mid-weight frame. The vibrant, silky finish is quite pretty. This delicate, approachable Barolo is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Ciabot Berton is a solid, reliable producer in La Morra. Drink 2012 - 2017. Rating 90, by Antonio Galloni

This is a lovely wine that is packed tight with spicy oak renderings, chocolate Nutella almond paste, red fruit and roasted espresso bean. The wine shows elegant, drying tannins with creamy mocha flavors that last long in the mouth. Drink after 2015. Score: 93 points
JANCISROBINSON.COM: La Morra. Deep ruby with orange tinges. Opulent, sweet oak and fruit cake, but much more compact and tannic on the palate. Fruit-cake notes on the finish with hints of cherry. Quite good, but with drying tannin on the finish. 15.5 Drink 2012-18 (WS)
WINE ENTHUSIAST (12/01/2010): This is a lovely Barolo with oak-driven aromas of vanilla and sweet spice between delicate layers of rose, tar and wild berry. There's plenty of tasty pulp and substance backed by tight tannins that will undoubtedly relax with more time in the bottle. Cellar age this wine five to ten more years. Score: 93 points
WINE ADVOCATE (Dec 2010): The 2006 Barolo is one of the most refined, elegant wines I have ever tasted from Ciabot Berton. Gorgeous aromatics meld seamlessly into dark red fruit as this pretty Barolo opens up in the glass. The fruit shows notable harmony from start to finish. The estate's Barolo is made from vineyards in Roggeri, Bricco S. Biagio and Rive, all in the Santa Maria district in La Morra. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. Drink: 2012 - 2021. ABOUT.COM GUIDE – Kyle Phillip : Deep black almandine with black reflexions and almandine rim. The bouquet is fairly intense, with dusky sour cherry fruit supported by some green leather and deft spice supported by alcohol that confers warmth. Harmonious through quite young. On the palate it's ample and soft, with fairly rich cherry plum fruit supported by moderate slightly sweet berry fruit acidity and by tannins that have a sweet cedary burr and flow into a clean bright plum finish with underlying tannic support. It's quite ripe , displaying plum as well as red berry fruit, but not so ripe as to be terminally soft and big; if you like the style you will enjoy it very much. 86-88

WINE ADVOCATE (Apr 2009): These 2004 Barolos are the finest wines I have tasted from Ciabot Berton. The 2004 Barolo is made from vineyards in Roggeri, Bricco San Biagio and Rive, all of which are in Santa Maria, one of the less well-known parts of La Morra for fine Nebbiolo. This is a lean, powerful Barolo, but in this vintage there is also gorgeous, fragrant fruit that can stand up to the tannins. The wine reveals lovely balance and length, with cooling notes of mint that provide a sense of lift on the finish. This is a very attractive, mid-weight Barolo from Ciabot Berton.
